On 24th May at the Youth Engagement in Revenue Management event in Hamburg Brita and HotelPartner will announce exciting news with regards to a collaboration with Hotel Management School Hamburg and HSMAI Region Europe.

Q:æWhat does a day at work consist of for you?

A: There is no typical day in my work really. When I am at my office in Hamburg I usually spend the better part of the morning analyzing and monitoring the previous days’s yield / revenue performance for our partner hotels discussing possible short term and long strategy changes with the portfolio managers. Since my teams are based both in Frankfurt and in Hamburg I spend quite a bit of time on the telephone and in conference calls both with team members and with customers. Often my days will also include future development project time such as spear-heading our expansion into the UK or for additional analysis and reports for our RMS System. And of course my role as lecturer at Hamburg Hotel Management School Hamburg also occupies part of my working time every week.

Q:æWhat’s the best part of your job?

A: The amount of tasks that need to be done in order to manage hotel operations and sales in the digital distribution age is staggering. My favourite part of the job is helping our customers to manage some of these complex tasks and working with my amazing and very dedicated colleagues always focusing on our hotel partners and their bottom-line results.

Q:æDo you have anyone you’ve looked up to?

A: I had the privilege of working with a few mentors in my professional live which I continue to value every day and without which I would not have had the same confidence and self-evidence in my various business endeavors over the years. In the realm of Revenue Management I particularly look up to Bonnie Buckhiester with whom I have been working on various projects and who I value as a highly knowledgeable pioneer in this field as well as incredibly inspirational.

Q:æDo you have any nice traditions at your office?

A: In our Hamburg office we have the tradition of going once a week for a meal ofæ ‘ìCurry Wurst’ – which is nice but not so healthy. Every year we get together all our colleagues and their families and have a family beach summer brunch which is my favourite tradition of the year.

Q:æHow long have you been a member of HSMAI?

A: 1 year in Europe prior to that 3 years in Canada.

Q:æWhat do you think is the best thing about HSMAI?

A: The international nature of HSMAI with the resulting network of professionals from a wide range of disciplines. The depth of this skill set allows a deep exchange of information and best practice experiences on a multi-national level across Europe.

Q:æAre there any activities or projects you think HSMAI should start up?

A: Iæthink it is great to see HSMAIæalready hasæa close link to many universities / business schools / vocational schools and am keen to see this also affect the development of updated content of sales and marketing activities. Helping to define what a modern Sales / Marketing / Revenue / Digital Manager needs to know and which portion of it should be part of school and university curricular is important.

Q:æDescribe your perfect weekend.

A: Shopping for really good food in the local farmers market cooking and eatingæ together with friends or family curling up in front of the fireplace with a few good books (bad weather) a walk in nature or a short paddle with the kayak (good weather). And of course lots of rest!

Q:æIf you were trapped on a desert island what would you take with you if you could choose one thing?

A: As an avid ocean kayaker I would have to say clearly that I would choose to have my folding kayak complete with paddling gear and all. But then I would probably not be trapped anymore’_

Q:æWhat is the title of the book about your life?

A: ‘ìJe ne regrette rien’

Q:æWhat is your next travel destination?

A: Besides opening our new office in London my next travel destination is The Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall where I will be spending my summer holidays.

Q:æDo you have any special hobbies?

A: Cooking eating ocean kayaking reading.
