The Steigenberger Hotel Group is expanding its flagship ‘ìGreen Meetings’ project to twelve more of the group’s hotels according to a press release issued by the chain.

Following the long-term success of the concept at the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt in Berlin the participating hotels have switched all their conference services to the new system with effect from 1 December 2015. Hotel guests in cities such as Berlin Vienna and Amsterdam will now be able to enjoy a carbon-neutral and particularly environmentally friendly conferencing experience.

‘ìThe launch of ‘ÖGreen Meetings’ in twelve more Steigenberger hotels demonstrates our far-sighted approach’ said Puneet Chhatwal CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG. ‘ìIt also enables us to offer our guests the opportunity to make their own contribution to ecological sustainability.’

The award-winning ‘ìGreen Meetings by Steigenberger’ programme integrates environmentally-friendly concepts across all phases of planning.

As the name suggests all packages offered under the ‘ìGreen Meetings’ umbrella are ‘ìgreen’. The climate protection organisation atmosfair offsets the CO2 consumption of conferences and the programme also offers a continuous improvement in environmental performance certified by an environmental management system that complies with the ISO 14001 Standard. This means that the sustainability of ‘ìGreen Meetings’ is achieved via a truly holistic approach. This is an ecological service which integrates environmentally-friendly concepts across all planning phases. It encompasses carbon-neutral travel to and from conferences by German Railways and the use of sustainable equipment during the event itself. Guests are also served drinking water that is filtered on site and enjoy organic and Fairtrade products that have largely been sourced regionally. All of this minimises the impact on the environment thus generating added value without incurring additional costs or compromising the comfort and quality of meetings.

In 2015 the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt received a ‘ìMeeting Experts Green Award’ in the ‘ìSustainable Events’ category to recognise the way in which it had reconciled the organisation of professional events with a comprehensive concept to ensure an environmentally compatible approach. This prize has been initiated by the German Convention Bureau in conjunction with the European Association of Event Centres and is awarded to companies and institutions involved in the events sector right across Germany in five different categories.
