External mentors can be vital for your organization

In this post pandemic era the challenge of staffing and staff retention is one of the biggest issues facing our industry, and one that HSMAI Europe has been and will remain strongly focused on in the months to come. Several initiatives have been executed and others are in place for the coming months in order to keep this issue in the spotlight.

Surveys have shown that 60% of hospitality students choose other career paths after graduating. Together with our Student Council, HSMAI Europe has recently addressed this issue at the HSMAI Curate held on May 11th at the ESSEC Business School in France. The Curate shared the findings of a survey for hospitality students from 5 of the leading hotel and business schools in Europe on their expectations from their future hospitality employers. The members of the Student Council will also be in London for the HSMAI Europe ROC event and Sales Leader forum on June 30th, where the full findings will be presented by the Student Council.

On Tuesday May 24th the HSMAI Europe Student Council hosted “Hospitality Unlocked”, an event put together by students for students focusing on hotel commercial management and the latest hospitality trends, and how to capitalise on these as future hospitality graduates. The event was held at the Breda University of Applied Sciences in Holland, and was attended by over 100 enthusiastic students from our member hotel schools.

Few things in life are as rewarding as being able to help others to succeed. The HSMAI Europe Mentor program is designed to do just that. Once again, with the challenges of retaining wonderful people in our industry, it is more important now than ever to focus on keeping abreast of developments, continuously improving our skills, and learning from others. The HSMAI Mentor program is pan-European, and is aimed at all age groups and levels working across the different disciplines and companies within the travel and hospitality industry. I strongly encourage you to consider either a mentor or a mentee from your company in order to contribute to continued growth, not only on a professional and personal level, but for the industry as a whole. There is no cost for HSMAI Europe members. External mentors can be vital for your organization. HSMAI Europe is here to help you. Read more in this newsletter. The first group for mentors and mentees will meet in person for a kick-off in London during the commercial strategy week.

If you are interested in being a mentor or a mentee, please contact us at postbox@hsmai.eu

Now our full attention is on the HSMAI Europe Commercial Strategy Week starting at the end of June. We encourage you and your team to sign up and join us. Please read more about all the events taking place in London here.

All the best,
