Vital industry initiative aims to support hospitality undergraduates’ and graduates’ professional growth, harness entrepreneurial skills and directly connect them with peer-groups and hospitality brands across the UK and Europe

The Student Council will also help to overcome the industry’s challenge of attracting talent and raise the profile of the industry.

The statistics from the hotel schools have for many years shown figures that we do not like. 60% or more of the students leave the industry after graduating. The lack of staff is one of the biggest challenges for our industry now. These are two of the main reasons why we have put a lot of effort and enthusiasm into the Student Council. We will also offer them mentors. Collaboration is important now.

Hotel schools, hotel chains and others from the industry are now getting invited to join the project that will be here to stay for many years to come. Together we will show the students and others why they should work in our industry. HSMAI Europe will do activities at the hotel schools across the UK and Europe that are members of the HSMAI Student Councils

With the student council, we aim to support the students to build a network beyond their usual scope, stimulate their professional growth, and create a sense of belonging within our magnificent hospitality industry” , says Ingunn Hofseth, President & CEO at HSMAI Region Europe
