Navigating the New Era of EMEA Travel: 2026 Strategic Outlook

by TrustYou

As we move into 2026, the EMEA region remains the undisputed engine of global tourism.

However, the 793 million visitors who arrived in 2025 have brought the industry to a critical crossroads. Between rising inflationary pressures in the North and overtourism in cultural capitals, the “new era” of travel is being defined by how well hoteliers manage the tension between record-breaking demand and operational reality.

To help you navigate these shifts, we are pleased to give HSMAI members early access to the TrustYou EMEA 2026 Pulse of the Industry Report. Reserved for this community until its global release on February 23rd, this report analyzes over 82 million guest reviews and sentiments from 2025. It is designed to serve as your strategic compass for the year ahead.

EMEA remains the global review volume leader

In 2025, the EMEA region accounted for 52.84% of global review volume, amassing over 82 million reviews. The region saw a 4.15% decrease in total review volume compared to 2024, but maintained a relatively high positive sentiment share of 87.19% globally

Key Regional Statistics:

  • Total Review Volume: 82,040,664
  • Positive Reviews: 72,067,816 (46.41% of global positive share)
  • Negative Reviews: 4,552,410

Response Rate: 48% (up from 45% in 2024)

The Sentiment Paradox: Service vs. Execution

Data from 2025 reveals a striking tension in guest satisfaction. While “Service” remains a global bright spot for EMEA—scoring a +7.85 impact score and serving as a “competitive moat” for the region—other operational areas are faltering.

  • Infrastructure Strain: Room Maintenance received a negative impact score of -6.32, largely due to high occupancy rates preventing necessary deep repairs to aging hotel stock.
  • The F&B Warning: A notable outlier in guest sentiment was the -8.32 score for Sushi. This highlights a growing trend where hotels are penalized for attempting international F&B concepts without the necessary execution capability, suggesting a strategic need to return to authentic local cuisine.

Regional Performance Drivers

While total review volume in EMEA saw a slight decrease of 4.15% in 2025, the region maintained a dominant 52.84% share of global review volume. Performance, however, varies significantly by market:

  • The “Coolcation” Surge: The Nordics emerged as major beneficiaries of climate-driven travel, with summer bookings to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark surging up to 263% as travelers sought relief from heatwaves.
  • Quality Over Density: Italy successfully increased guest satisfaction to 87.73 by aggressively curbing overtourism, validating a strategy of prioritizing high-value experiences over sheer volume.
  • Efficiency in the UK & Netherlands: Facing high labor costs and upcoming VAT hikes, hoteliers in these markets have leaned into engagement, with the UK achieving a 55.43% response rate to justify price premiums.

The UAE’s Luxury Benchmark: With a world-leading response rate of 70.68%, the UAE continues to define high-end service standards amid a massive construction boom.

2026 Strategic Recommendations

To thrive in the coming year, hospitality leaders should focus on three core pillars:

  • Market Sustainability Aggressively: With “Coolcation” trends rising, verified eco-certifications are no longer just ethical—they are tools to justify price premiums.
  • Automate to Elevate: Implement technology for transactional tasks like check-in/out to free up staff for “high-touch” moments that protect your service reputation.

Prepare for Regulatory Shifts: Proactively communicate value propositions to guests in markets facing tax increases, such as the Netherlands, or stricter short-term rental laws, such as Barcelona and Paris.
